This all started as a 4-H project in the summer of 1982 and it has just grown from there. The Jesta Farm herd is shown throughout New England and we have attended all three of the National Shows held in Harrisburg, PA, the 2001 National Show in Springfield, MA, and the 2008 National Show in Louisville, Kentucky. The farm is located mid-way between the Maine and Massachusetts borders. Just miles from the historic and scenic coast of New Hampshire. On a warm summer day at high tide if the breeze is blowing from the east, you can smell the salt air.
Over the years the farm has bred 5 Recorded Grade Breed Leaders, 2 Spotlight Sale does, and 35 Permanent Grand Champions, many of which have appraised excellent and have won awards for milk production.
At least 12 Young Sire Development Bucks carry the Jesta Farm name. A couple of the purchased herd sires have been in the top 4 to 15% of the USDA Sire Summary.
As of January 2010, more than 40 Jesta Farm bucks and does have been awarded the Superior Genetics (SG) Award. This award identifies and recognizes individual animals for their genetic superiority through participation in ADGA's performance programs, DHI production testing, and Linear Appraisal type evaluation.
I have worked to breed structurally correct animals that will excel in both type and production; animals that will win in the show ring and still put milk in the pail. The herd is made up of Purebreds, Americans, and Grades, which I have indicated next to their names.
This March will mark 26 years that the herd has been on DHIR test and 2009 was the 25 year that the herd was appraised. I feel very fortunate that testing and appraisal are available, together with showing, this gives a good idea of what the Jesta Farm animals are capable of doing.
Births here at the farm are attended with kids being taken away and raised on heat treated colostrum and pasteurized milk. Kids are housed separate from the mature stock, once freshened introduced into the main herd. They are started early on a 16% dairy pellet and choice second cut hay, then weaned at 10-12 weeks of age from their milk.
The herd is vaccinated with Bar-Vac CDT. Semen from the Jesta Farm herd sires can be obtained from either Superior Semen Works or here at the farm.
A fifty dollar deposit is required on any kid ordered. Please make a first and a second choice to better insure a kid suitable for your needs should your first choice not be born or I choose to retain it. If your choice is not available, your deposit will be returned. No return of deposit on canceled orders. You will be notified of the birth and the balance is due within two weeks. The purchaser is responsible for all shipping, crate, and health charges. Kids will be shipped out of Manchester, NH or Logan International Airport, Boston, MA.
Feel free to either call or write if you have any questions.
